| There is great diversity in East
Java cuisine. The style of preparation and presentation differs not only from island to
island but also from region to region. The basic staple food is served with side dishes of meat, eggs, fish and vegetables. Popular standard dishes found all over the areas of East Java and Madura are 'Nasi Goreng' (fried rice), 'Sate' (pronounced satay), 'Soto', 'Pecel' (vegetable salad with peanut sauce), 'Gule' (pronounced gulay) and many others. Besides local food, there are also many Chinese, Western and specialty restaurants. European cuisine is available in all hotels catering to tourist destination areas. |
